KATHMANDU, Aug. 16: Amid ongoing discussions and massive hues and cries over the issue of taxation from all three levels of government, the opposition Nepali Congress (NC) leaders have come to a point that hefty tax burden and administrative hassles remain the twin challenges in constitution's implementation.
At a programme organized by NC central policy and training academy, the leaders said that the current problems facing the country would not be resolved just by imposing huge tax.
NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the government despite being the strength of two-thirds majority was puzzled.

Likewise, former finance minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat claimed that Nepal was ranked one of the countries having the highest amount of tax in the world. He feared that high taxation would not encourage the domestic and foreign investment. "Who will be attracted for investment after the news about increased tax rate," NC leader Mahat questioned.
Furthermore, Dr Mahat claimed that share market was in the bearish trend because of the wrong economic policy of the government.
During the event, former National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Dr Swarnim Wagle termed the incumbent government's progress as 'nothing new'. He however said that end to syndicate, Nepal Tourism Year 2020, procurement of aircrafts for Nepal Airlines Corporation and reforms in tax administration were the good actions of the current government.
Likewise, former chief administrator Dr Bimal Koirala and former Foreign Affairs Secretary Gyanchandra Acharya and political analyst Shreekrishna Anirudra Gautam shared their opinions on administrative challenges to well functioning of federalism.
Also speaking at the programme, analyst of political economy Dr Achyut Wagle opined to make a robust Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission to advance the federalism. Dr Wagle is of the opinion that party's clear stance on tax is awaited.
NC's vice president and coordinator of the academy Bimalednra Nidhi shared that such events would be conducted in all 753 local levels.
