KATHMANDU, Nov 19: The main opposition Nepali Congress has accused the government of failing to live up to the people's expectations despite having a two-thirds majority.

Unveiling his party's commitment paper for the upcoming by-election during a press meet held at the party headquarters in the capital on Tuesday, NC Spokesman Biswo Prakash Sharma pointed out 21 failures of the Oli-led administration in the past 21 months since it came to power.

Sharma said that the government failed to make concrete diplomatic and political initiatives to retrieve Nepali territory Kalapani which has been encroached upon by India for several decades.

"Although the government vowed to ensure the wider ownership of the constitution by accommodating the concerns of Terai-Madhesh when it came to power, it has failed to do so so far," he said.

The 21-page commitment paper states that the government has done too little in fulfilling the remaining tasks of the Constitution implementation such as fixing and naming the provincial capitals.

In its paper, the NC has stated that the government has failed to demonstrate diplomatic maturity since it came to power.

The paper also focuses on the historical achievements made by the Nepali Congress party.

Apart from that, the commitment paper incorporates several achievements made by the NC-led governments in the field of economy, health, education and infrastructure development in the past.
