KATHMANDU, Feb 21: On the occasion of the International Mother Language Day-2018, the Nepal Academy organized a 'National Mother Language Poem Festival-2018' on Wednesday in the capital city.
A total of 44 poets of 36 languages including Nepali, Maithili, Khas, Dumi, Tamang, Dhimal and other languages recited their poems. Likewise, dances of Deuda, Newari, Bhojpuri, Maithali and Dhimal were also performed on the occasion.

On the occasion, linguist Prof Dr Nobel Kishor Rai said that diverse languages and cultures in Nepal were the country's treasures, suggesting that the state and communities concerned should give special attention for the protection of such into the future generation.
Coordinator of the festival, Shrawan Mukarung said that poem is considered a powerful genre since time immemorial on the development of mother language and literature.
He also said that 44 poems of different languages were selected for the festival.
Vice Chancellor of Academy Bishnu Bhibhu Ghimire said that the Academy was playing leading role for the protection of the mother language. RSS
