KATHMANDU, July 22: The meeting of the Council of Ministers today has approved the National Mass Communications Policy 2073 BS.
The Information and Mass Communications High Level Committee on July 20 had submitted the report to Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli in this regard.
Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai informed that the policy was endorsed as per the suggestions given by the committee.
The committee chair Kashiraj Dahal had submitted the report to the PM. The report recommends making transparency in the investment in media, rights of working journalists and restructuring the media sectors among others.
Minister Rai added that the suggestions given by the committee would be implemented as it had suggested for making Press Council's role effective, establishing the advertisement council, Public Service Broadcasting Nepal, National Mass Communication Authority and the Mass Communication Regulatory mechanism.
The meeting has decided to implement a 'clean feed' policy, under which, TV channels that charge for contents cannot broadcast advertisements.
It was also decided upon at the meeting that around 700 ropanis of land would be managed at Duwakot in Bhaktapur to shift Bir Hospital there. Buildings with international standards, quality and modernity would be built as per the policies and programs, budget and the Appropriation Bill passed by Parliament.
The meeting has also given the Nepal Army the responsibility to guard the area storing uranium at Lomanthang in Mustang. RSS
