LALITPUR, Aug 2: Senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Madhav Kumar Nepal has said national attire has an important role to elevate the country's identity.
At a seminar organized by the national attire conservation campaign in Lalitpur on Friday, the senior leader hoped that the campaign would take initiatives to make national attire mandatory. "It will help to increase Nepal's fame and respect if every Nepali wears national costume," he reiterated.

Former Prime Minister Nepal observed that women were ahead in terms of respecting national costume as compared to men in Nepal. He urged the new generation to elevate Nepal's identity by learning every positive thing from their ancestors. He also called employees of all offices and bodies to compulsory wear national uniform on the National Day every year.
Similarly, chairperson of a mega campaign for the conservation of national attire, Bibash Ghimire, demanded the government to make Nepali daura suruwal, topi and gunyo choli compulsory. He said, "It is necessary to establish national uniform museum to enhance identity of different nationalities of the country." Likewise, lawmaker Nabaraj Silwal, Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula and culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi stressed the need of making a national uniform policy.
