MYAGDI, Feb 26: The entire Mustang district was griefstricken following Wednesday’s Tara Air Twin Otter crash at Solighopte cliff in Dana VDC-2 of Myagdi district.
Of the 23 killed in the crash, eight were residents of Mustang and the four civil servants killed in the crash were also stationed in Mustang.
The victims from Mustang included Dil Kumari Gauchan of Lete VDC; Kamala Thakali of Tukuche; Laxmi Hirachan, Kanchha Pariyar, Binita Bhattachan and her infant of Marpha; Krishnalal Bhattachan of Jomsom; and Fhenjock Gurung of Kagbeni VDC.
The four civil servants stationed in the district were Rewati Baral of District Administration Office, Assistant Accountant Balkrishna Nyure from District Treasury Controller’s Office, VDC secretary of Muktinath Bastola, and Nepal Army personnel Raj Kumar Tamang.“The district has suffered an irreparable loss. Everyone is wet-eyed,” Sak Bahadur Lalchan, one of locals from Marpha VDC, said. He informed that the bodies of Krishnalal, Binita and her infant have been kept at the Mustang district hospital.
Since the construction of airport in Mustang four decades ago, this is the first time the district has lost so many of its residents in an air crash. “The tragic incident will always haunt us,” Lopchan said, wiping his tears.
Meanwhile, Chief District Officer of Mustang Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari said that among those identified, three have been brought to the district. “The bodies of those who have yet to be identified will be handed over to their kin once their identities are ascertained,” CDO Adhikari said.
