KATHMANDU, May 15: A 15-hour long meeting of the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum has decided not to join the government under any other party’s leadership. [break]

The meeting held from 1 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday decided to take initiatives for forming the government under the party’s leadership in backing of other parties.

“If we fail to garner such support, we will support the party or coalition agreeing in written to implement the eight-point agreement signed by the government with United Democratic Madhesi Front in February 2008,” said Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, a senior MPRF leader. “But we will not join the government.”

MRRF will give first priority to garner support to form the new coalition government under its leadership, according to Ram Janam Choudhari, chief whip of the party in the parliament. "By this evening everything will be clear," he said.

MPRF to test reliability of prime minister´s assurance to back it to lead future coalition

"The Maoists have given words to back us in case they fail to garner support," said another member of the party close to Yadav. "The parliamentary party meeting scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday will discuss how reliable is the prime minister´s offer to support the MPRF to form a new government."

"At least one thing has become clear that we are not joining the UML-led coalition but there are still possibility of us supporting the UML-led coalition from outside," said Choudhari.

The members in the fourth largest party in the Constituent Assembly were virtually divided on the issue of joining the UML-led coalition during parliamentary party and central committee meetitng. When party Chairman Upendra Yadav came up with an option of leading the future coalition in the Maoist backing, he appeared in majority position late night Thursday.

Bijaya Gachchhadar who seems to be in majority thje parliamentary party was in favor of joining the UML-led coalition became weak as he could not stand against the chance to lead the government. "He was just cautioning that the offer could be a Maoists´ gambit to sabotage a democratic alliance in the offing," said the MPRF member.
