MPRF-D lawmaker threatens journalists

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Lawmaker Pramod Prasad Gupta of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) on Thursday warned of physical action against journalists covering news about the split of the party.



During the party´s parliamentary meeting held at Singha Durbar, lawmaker Gupta warned of physical action by naming journalists belonging to various media houses. Gupta alleged that journalists were acting against ´Madhes´.[break]



 "I will break backbones of the journalists who write baseless news. Even the party cannot interfere in this matter," he warned the journalists who had reached to cover the party´s meeting.



Gupta was one among the lawmakers of MPRF-D who had planned to defect from the mother party a few days ago.



Prior to this, lawmaker Gupta had warned journalists of severe consequences alleging that they wrote news about the decision of some lawmakers of the party to cross floor during a prime ministerial voting in the parliament.



Meanwhile, Journalists´ Society for Parliamentary Affairs (JSPA) has denounced Gupta´s threat against journalists. Issuing a press statement, the JSPA also demanded that the concerned political party, constituent assembly and the government take action against the guilty.
