KATHMANDU, April 2: Record-holder mountaineer Phurba Tenjing Sherpa has been appointed as the goodwill ambassador of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga national Park of Italy.
Established in 1991, the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park is a natural park in central Italy covering an area of 2,014 square kilometers. The Park is considered the largest and most famous park in Europe, playing an important role in biological conservation and environmental balance.

President of the park, Tamaso Navarro, handed over the letter of appointment to the mountaineer Sherpa during a program held in Kathmandu on Saturday.
It may be noted that a resident of Dolakha, Sherpa holds the record for being the fastest to climb Mt Everest twice in three days, to climb Mt. Everest twice without oxygen and to climb Mt Everest at a young age (nine times at the age of 24).
On this occasion, former Minister of Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung and Radhika Shakya, the spouse of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, said that the appointment of Phurba Tenjing as increased goodwill ambassador of the Italian National Park was a matter of great pride for Nepal.
On the occasion Phurba Tenjing said that the appointment has encouraged him to do more work to increase the identity and pride of Nepal in the future.
