KATHMANDU, June 24: As the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/25 nears its end and the monsoon begins, road digging and drainage construction works have intensified across various parts of Kathmandu.

To exhaust the remaining budget, the Urban Development and Building Construction Office has completely blocked the road in the Gaurighat area to carry out drainage construction. Officials say this work will take at least 15 more days to complete.

Additionally, sidewalk tiles are being replaced just as the rainy season begins, causing inconvenience to pedestrians.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Electricity Authority has also started work to lay underground cables in various locations, right when the rainy season has begun. In Jamal, this work is being carried out in a way that disrupts vehicular movement on the main road. After digging, the soil is loosely refilled and left as-is, resulting in uneven surfaces and potholes, causing difficulties for vehicles. When it rains, the loose soil is washed away, making the roads slippery and hazardous.
