MoFA announces Chinese President Xi's visit to Nepal

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: Chinese President Xi Jinping is paying a state visit to Nepal from October 12 to 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday morning.

Xi is visiting Nepal at the friendly invitation of his Nepali counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari.

During the visit, President Xi will meet with Bhandari and hold delegation level official talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, according to a press release issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. President Bhandari will host a banquet in honor of President Xi and the high-powered Chinese delegation, according to the ministry.

Following the talks between Oli and Xi, both the leaders will witness the signing of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding, the ministry stated.

Senior leaders of Nepal will call on President Xi during his sojourn in Kathmandu.

Chinese President Xi will directly fly to Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon from Chennai after concluding his two-day India visit.

Xi is visiting India from October 11 to 12 for the second informal summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the External Affairs Ministry announced in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The ministry stated in a press release that the forthcoming Chennai Informal Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance.

"At the invitation of the Prime Minister, the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping will be visiting Chennai, India from October 11-12, 2019 for the 2nd Informal Summit," the MEA said.

The summit will be held in the coastal town of Mamallapuram. During the summit the two countries will exchange views on deepening India-China Closer Development Partnership, the MEA said.
