KATHMANDU, Oct 30: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has completed drafting of a separate law for the 105-year old Sajha Prakashan.

A panel was formed to draft the new law in September after controversy related to top-level appointments and irregularities at the publication.

"The first draft of the law has been completed," said the ministry's spokesman Dr Hari Prasad Lamsal. "It will be discussed on the floor for inputs and suggestions soon," he added.

Sajha Prakashan is now under the Ministry of Education (MoE), which appoints its top officials. But Sajha is still operating as per its 53-year-old Sahakari by-law for lack of a specific Act.

Sajha chairperson and board members are appointed as per the Nepal Government (Work Division) Regulations 2012, which brought Sajha Prakashan under the Ministry of Education. However, Sajha Prakashan is still operated as per the Bylaw of Sajha Prakashan Sahakari Sanstha 1964.

Only last month, the MoE sacked Dolindra Prasad Sharma from the post of chairperson and general manager of Sajha Prakashan on the charge of his involvement in various irregularities.
