Minister revokes Karki's appointment

KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Minister for Energy Prakash Sharan Mahat has revoked the decision to appoint Arjun Karki as Head of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project following a serious dispute with Shankar Koirala, secretary of the ministry, over the appointment.



Confirming the decision to revoke the appointment, Mahat said, "This is not about the person. This is about defiance of authority."



Earlier, expressing his serious objection over the decision to appoint Karki for the post without his knowledge, Mahat sought clarification from Secretary Shankar Koirala.



The 456-MW Tamakoshi is the largest hydroelectric project promoted by domestic investors in the country.
