KATHMANDU, May 2: A memorandum has been submitted to the Judicial Council demanding that appointments to the Supreme Court, appellate courts and other courts be made inclusive.

The memorandum signed by advocate Dipendra Jha has underscored the need for transforming all state organs into inclusive bodies in accordance with the spirit of the Interim Constitution.[break]

"The Interim Constitution has adopted the principle of inclusiveness. The spirit of the constitution is clear that appointments to be made in all state organs should be inclusive. This should be implemented by the judiciary, legislature and the executive without condition," reads the memorandum which was submitted to the Council on Thursday.

It has also mention of an earlier Supreme Court verdict that ordered state agencies to transform themselves into inclusive bodies.

"The Judicial Council must respect the apex court´s order. Thus we draw the attention of the council and demand that the upcoming appointments to be made in the Supreme Court, appellate courts and other courts be made in line with the principle of inclusiveness," reads the memorandum. It has demanded that Madhesi, indigenous, dalit, women and other marginalized communities be properly represented while making such appointments.
