Speaking at an interaction on Wednesday, Anne Isabelle, country director of UNDP Nepal, said working under global compact network was a win-win situation for both employers and employees. "Everyone wins in this deal as the primary focus is on maintaining proper working environment," she said.
UNGC is a global initiative to promote corporate citizenship initiative bases on the areas of human rights, labor standards, environment and anti-corruption. It was launched in New York in 2000 with 47 businesses with the objective of bringing private companies together with UN agencies, labor and civil society to support universal environmental and social principles.
Kush Kumar Joshi, president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said the local network of UNGC was helping in planned contribution and also supporting toward meeting the Millennium Development Goals.
The burning issues like climate change and child labor are properly addressed under UNGC, Nabina Shrestha of UNDP said.
Speakers at the program stressed on the role of media in increasing the number of companies under UNGC. They said media can encourage the business enterprises by educating them about UNGC and also highlighting the success stories of the companies.
