Regmi said that the import of petroleum products decreased and the import of large quantities of goods from third countries, including betel nuts, was stopped, which affected the revenue collection. He said that in the three years after the Covid-19 pandemic, the revenue collection through the Mechi Customs Office has been continuously decreasing.

Chief Customs Officer Regmi said that Mechi Customs Office collected Rs 17.53 billion in revenue in the fiscal year 2021/22 and Rs 18.69 billion in fiscal year 2020/21.

Compared to the year 2021/22, in the year 2022/23, Rs 3.48 billion less revenue has been collected. The Mechi Customs Office at Kakarbhitta in the east is a revenue collection agency for trade from Bhutan and Bangladesh to North India, West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam.
