UDAYAPUR, Oct 25: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Narayan Khadka has said that MCC could be passed only if there is broader consensus among political parties.

"There is a need to endorse the project that is much more complicated and has attracted more attention from the incumbent government. But there is no possibility of passing the project without a consensus among political parties. So there is a need to hold consultations among political parties in this regard," he said at a press conference organised here today by the Nepal Press Union, Udayapur.

Dr Khadka said that the government will organise a discussion on the matter among coalition partners and with the main opposition party, CPN-UML, to get the project endorsed when a consensus is reached, he said.

In a separate context, Minister Dr Khadka said that a Triyuga river control project has been established at his personal initiative to control the river erosion. A total of Rs 8 billion has been allocated for the project.

Dr Khadka reached Udayapur after inspecting flood-hit areas in many districts in Province 1.
