MCC Nepal Compact exempted from US aid pause, implementation to continue

KATHMANDU, June 18: The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact will continue without interruption, following a specific exemption approved by the US Secretary of State in February 2025. The exemption allows the compact to proceed with full implementation, despite an ongoing US government review of foreign assistance programs.


The US Embassy in Kathmandu, in a statement issued Wednesday, confirmed that both MCC and the US Mission in Nepal remain actively engaged with stakeholders to support a constructive outcome of the review.

MCC is working in close coordination with Nepal’s Ministry of Finance and MCA-Nepal to ensure that all ongoing and planned activities—along with any potential new obligations—are aligned with the priorities of both the US and Nepali governments. The implementation focuses on transparency, sound governance, effective delivery, and prudent risk management.


Reaffirming its commitment to Nepal, the US Embassy stated that the US remains dedicated to advancing bilateral ties and supporting the prosperity and long-term economic resilience of the Nepali people.
