PHC endorses four nominees for heads of constitutional commissions




Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has endorsed the names of four nominees for heads of constitutional commissions, on Tuesday. A meeting of the PHC held at Singhadurbar approved the names of Bala Nanda Poudel for National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC), Shanta Raj Subedi for National Inclusion Commission and Dr Bijaya Kumar Dutta for Madhesi Commission, Bishnu Prasad Tharu. No complaints were filed against the aforementioned proposed four commissioners, according to the committee.


Hearing committee ends inconclusively over Ansari's fake citizenship row



A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) on Tuesday ended inconclusively after it failed to make a concrete decision on the fate of proposed commissioner for Muslim Commission, Samim Miya Ansari. In the complaint filed at the PHC, Ansari has been accused of holding forged citizenship and academic certificates. The meeting held at Singhadurbar could not make decision regarding the proposed commissioner for the Muslim Commission after the meeting failed to witness the participation of required number of parliamentarians.

Govt doing less to check polluting vehicles


Even though the government started checking pollution condition of the vehicles since mid-August last year, the pollution created by vehicle emissions has gone unabated. A team of officials from the Department of Transport Management (DoTM), Traffic Police and engineer conducted emission test on the vehicles in the Kathmandu valley. A total of 101 vehicles fail pollution test in the capital.   


WWF launches probe after allegations that it funded murderous guards in anti-poaching war



The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has launched an investigation into allegations published by The Kathmandu Post in partnership with BuzzFeed News that the international charity funds and works with “paramilitary forces that have been accused of beating, torturing, sexually assaulting, and murdering scores of people.” “WWF has provided paramilitary forces with salaries, training, and supplies — including knives, night vision binoculars, riot gear, and batons — and funded raids on villages.


Trump plans to scrap preferential trade treatment for India



President Donald Trump looked set to open a new front in his trade wars on Monday with a plan to end preferential trade treatment for India that allows duty-free entry for $5.6 billion worth of the country’s exports to the United States. Trump, who has vowed to cut U.S. trade deficits, has repeatedly called out India for its high tariffs, and U.S. trade officials said scrapping the concessions would take at least 60 days after notifications to Congress and the Indian government.


Nepal to participate in Special Olympic World Summer Games



Nepal is participating in the Special Olympic World Summer Games taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on March 14 to 21. The Nepali team going to the UAE to participate in the Games was given a farewell amid a programme organised at the Nepal Sports Council. In the sports competition, Nepal will participate in the 'five-A side unified futsal, bocce and athletics.
