KATHMANDU, March 28: Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday sought CPN-UML leaders´ flexibility on awarding two-three senior posts to the Maoist combatants in the Nepal Army (NA) through a political decision.

“He asked us to cooperate in giving two to three senior posts to the Maoist combatants through a political decision. But we turned down the request,” said CPN-UML leader Bhim Rawal. [break]

Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai had held a meeting with senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice-chairman Bam Dev Gautam and Rawal.

When asked what Dahal meant by senior positions, Rawal said, “He indicated that he was seeking ranks higher above major.”

Rawal said the Maoist combatants can rise to any senior post in the army as per the seven-point agreement if they meet the NA standard norms.
