"Maoist colleagues themselves have said that they have been trying to garner votes by paying up to Rs 20 million each," Jha told myrepublica.com. [break]
He, however, did not name the Maoists in the campaign to offer such huge amounts to lawmakers. "Rumors are rife in the market about this."
Asked if he also was approached with the same offer, he said, "I have not been offered even a cup of tea yet."
Maoist Chairman Dahal and NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel are in the race for prime minister. The third round of voting for a prime minister has been scheduled for August 2. Two rounds of voting have already failed to yield any result.
Both NC and the Maoists have been trying to woo the support of other parties to form a government under their respective leadership.
The third round of voting is also unlikely to yield any result as the CPN- UML has announced it is to stay neutral and the Madhesi parties have not yet decided whom to support. The support of Madhes-based parties is a must for forming a Maoist-led government.
