KATHMANDU, Aug 3
: With an announcement of new recruitment in the Nepal Army (NA), People´s Liberation Army (PLA) of Unified CPN (Maoist) also announced fresh intake.

PLA Deputy Commander Chandra Prakash Khanal ‘Baldev’ made an announcement to this effect at a press meet  in Kathmandu on Tuesday. [break]

Khanal said that PLA was planning to increase its numerical strength to its original level -- 31,300.

Khanal, however, said his party respects the Supreme Court (SC) decision that paved the way for fresh recruitment in the NA.

“Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee (JMCC) cannot be biased against us by barring PLA from recruitment while allowing the NA to do the same,” Khanal said.

NA on Monday announced 3,464 vacant positions.

NA will recruit 250 officer cadets and 3,214 other ranks, including recruits. Among the 3,214 vacancies, 2,650 will be for recruits and 564 will be others.

NA recruited 2,884 personnel in February 2009 and also recruited personnel twice before during late former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala´s tenure.
