Manakamana Cable Car resumes operation

KATHMANDU: Manakamana Cable Car -- the only cable car service in the country -- resumed its operation on Friday after the management agreed to fulfill the demands put forth by the security guards who were on strike for the last three weeks demanding pay hike and permanent status in the company.



A tripartite agreement was singed between the cable car management, Maoist affiliated labor union and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry over the issue.



Shalikram Jammakattel, chairman of the Maoist trade union said the cable car management agreed to grant permanent status and to provide government set salary scale of Rs 4,600 per month to the agitating guards.



The management also agreed to provide Rs. 1,500 additional allowances along with the bonus equal to one month’s salary to them.
