SARLAHI, March 21: Area Police Office (APO), Harion, on Tuesday arrested a man on the charge of swindling people out of millions of rupees by promising them employment in Kuwait.
The APO has arrested Rameshwar Singh Mahato Koiri, 28, alias Prem of Harion Municipality-3 and handed him to the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), Kathmandu, for further action. "As per the letter from the DoFE, Koiri was charged of swindling 50 individuals out of millions of rupees by promising them jobs in foreign land," said Ramkaji Thapa, inspector of APO, Harion, adding, "The victims have filed a written complaint against him."
Five months ago, Koiri had received Rs 4.6 million from 50 people of various districts. But he has not sent anyone abroad so far. "I have given him a total of Rs 165,000. I even have a receipt for the payment," claims Shyam Kumar Yadav of Banshipur, Siraha.

Similarly, Ram Dular Mahato of the same village said that Koiri had promised jobs in Kuwait to 16 others but failed to deliver on his promise. As a result, they had to file a complaint at the DoFE. As informed by Inspector Thapa, Koiri has duped people of Siraha, Saptari and Khotang. The victims later realized that they had been given fake receipts. "We had paid the amount by seeking loans and now we are tired of paying the interest," said Yadav.
As mentioned in the complaint filed by the victims at the DoFE, Koiri had charged different amounts to different people. According to police, Koiri has refuted the allegation. Police have launched further investigation into the case.
