KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Police have arrested a person who gave an interview claiming to be an eyewitness in the Nirmala Pant murder case. The accused has been identified as Navraj Aryal from Gorkha.
Hobindra Bogati, Superintendent of Police (SP), said that a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested Aryal. Police said that they detained him on the charge of spreading false information, and have taken him for questioning on this matter. SP Bogati clarified that all the details claimed by Aryal on television are false.
Nirmala murder case remains a mystery even after five years
Earlier, he had introduced himself as a driver of the Department of Drinking Water. In the interview, he claimed to have witnessed the rape of Nirmala Pant while in Kanchanpur. The CIB also summoned Rishi Dhamala, the presenter of the television program, to the office.
A few days ago, Aryal, in an interview with journalist Dhamala on Prime Time television, claimed to be an eyewitness of the Nirmala rape and murder case. He said that if the government provided security, he could reveal the names of the culprits.
