Make way for superfan

Comic books have always gathered the appreciation for providing an action-packed enhancement of the lives of superheroes. The rugged graphics that comics flaunt is fine-tuned by captivating storylines. Moreover, the portrayal of comic characters through series, anime, and even mainstream cinemas further aid in increasing its fan base.  To celebrate the grandeur of the vibrant characters, enthusiasts from around the world come together in different venues, to speculate their own fan theories, which are regularly attested by the comic authors.

Super craze

The influence that the characters leave on fans is hard to neglect. Shyam Shrestha, the lead designer at Sasto Deal, says that he had been a comic and superheroes movies fan since his teenage. He said, “I have been a comic book and superhero fan for roughly 18 or 19 years. My days, as a fan, started after I started watching Tim Burton’s Batman, and Christopher Reeve’s iconic Superman in the mid-1990s. However, watching the animated superheroes series from both Marvel and DC in TV channels converted me into one of the craziest fans of the comic universe. In addition to watching them on TV, I read comics too.”

Comics and superhero movies can be more than mere passion to some. Raidon Rai, Marketing Officer at Star Office International, considers comic books and superhero movies as an integral part of his life. He says, “My brother, and I used to read Batman comics under the dim beam of the torch at night; we couldn’t let our parents know that we were awake.  Once when my dad came home on holidays, he brought DVDs of Spider-Man 1, X-Men 1, and X-Men 2. Watching those movies on repeat mode cemented my love for the superhero genre.  Even today, I try to watch every superhero movie as soon as they are released in the theatres. That’s the only way to watch these movies without being victims of spoilers on social media.”

Not only the superhero genre, people are equally obsessed with anime. They read manga, collect anime merchandises, and attend cosplay events dressed up as their favorite anime characters. Sundeep Tuladhar, an anime buff, for the past 5 years, says that he is obsessed with watching anime and reading manga.

“Sometimes, I wake up all night to complete a whole season,” Tuladhar stated. To prove his love for anime, he plans to visit the anime convention slated for mid-September.

Establishing supremacy

Comic books and superhero movies are subjects that garner attention from all over the world. More often than not, fans argue to establish supremacy over their rival groups. For instance, the internet battle between DC and Marvel universes has prevailed for a long time. While some take it as a fun way of presenting their personal views, others consider it a stupid topic to debate on. Rai said, “I never really understood the rivalry between Marvel and DC fans. They are two hugely successful companies with both good and bad comics, movies, characters, and stories under their belts. Fighting to establish supremacy over the other is not intelligent.”

Likewise, Shyam Shrestha added, “People who only watch superhero movies are the true debaters. Both of the universes have good characters and stories.”

Presenting a contradicting belief, Ramananda Pokhrel (name changed), believes that debates over the internet on the better universe and characters are entertaining. “People have their personal choices; they either choose one or the other. And I think it’s a great thing because I enjoy watching people fighting for their favorite heroes,” Pokhrel added.
