Major hospitals on standby to treat Trishuli flood injured

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, local hospitals have been prepared to treat people with minor injuries, while six major hospitals, including Bir Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences and the National Trauma Center, have been placed on standby to treat seriously injured patients.

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: The government has placed hospitals in Kathmandu and affected areas on standby to provide treatment to people injured in the floods caused by rising water from the Tibet side of the Trishuli River.



According to the Ministry of Health and Population, local hospitals have been prepared to treat people with minor injuries, while six major hospitals, including Bir Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences and the National Trauma Center, have been placed on standby to treat seriously injured patients.

The ministry said preparations are underway to bring injured people to these hospitals, while helicopters carrying medical teams have already been deployed to the affected areas.


Bir Hospital has cleared and prepared 40 beds in its emergency department after making arrangements for existing emergency patients elsewhere, according to Assistant Director Dr. Apar Lamichhane. Medical staff and medicines have also been kept ready, with preparations underway to accommodate additional patients if required.


The hospital has also prepared a team to manage potential crowds of patients and their families.


The National Trauma Center has prepared to treat more than 50 injured people, according to its director Dr. Rudra Marasini.


Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital has also sent medical personnel to the affected areas by helicopter. Assistant Director Dr. Pawan Acharya said doctors from the emergency department and all other departments are on standby.
