KATHMANDU: Nepali international midfielder Pradeep Maharjan will fly to Bangkok, Thailand next week for assessment of his operated right knee. [break]

Maharjan had his knee operated at Sirinthon Hospital, Bangkok in May after injuring his knee-joint during a friendly match against Thailand at the Franz Beckenbaeur Academy Ground in Bangkok in preparation for the AFC Challenge Cup.

The Three Star midfielder missed the AFC Challenge Cup, Fifth South Asian Football Federation Championship and the Merdeka Cup after the surgery. He has recovered now. The 22-year-old has been doing physiotherapy regularly and has even started jogging and with-ball training. “I jog for 15 minutes and juggle with the ball for 45 minutes. But I have yet to regain my power and speed,” Maharjan told Republica.

Physiotherapist Gaurav Subedi, who has been overseeing Maharjan, feels that he has recovered well and believes that he will return to the field soon. Subedi however said the exact date of his return can be predicted only after the check-up in Bangkok.

The news will be music to ears of Nepali football fans as Maharjan was sorely missed in the three tournaments that Nepal played in the period. The All Nepal Football Federation (ANFA) has been bearing all expenses for the treatment of Maharjan, an ANFA Academy product.
