KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The Madhesi Commission has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police to take action against the people who used insulting words in a recent video against the Madheshi community and Balendra Shah, the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
On November 30, a video was widely circulated on social media, in which people chanted slogans against Mayor Shah. The commission said that the entire Madheshi community was hurt and humiliated and social harmony and national unity were disturbed as the people in the video used insulting words.

“During the protest that ensued after the KMC launched a demolition drive in the squatters’ settlement in Thapathali, a person insulted the entire Madheshi community on social media disturbing social harmony and national unity. Therefore, the commission requests the authorities concerned to take strict action against the responsible person as per the law.” reads the letter written to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Police Headquarters by the commission’s under secretary Sabita Dangol.
Chairman of the Commission Dr Bijay Kumar Dutta said that the commission has written to the Nepal Police to investigate the video and take action accordingly.
