JANAKPURDHAM, Jan 16: The Speaker's election in Madhesh Province has been postponed for a day. The Speaker's election is scheduled to be held tomorrow. Secretary Ranjit Kumar Yadav of the Provincial Assembly informed Republica that the meeting of the Provincial Assembly has been postponed to mourn the loss of life in the plane crash in Pokhara.
The federal government has announced a public holiday on Monday to mourn the loss of life in the crash. In Monday's meeting, along with the election of the Speaker, newly-appointed Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav was scheduled to take the vote of confidence. However, after the plane crash on Sunday morning shocked the entire country, the meeting of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly was postponed by a day.

The next meeting of the provincial assembly will be held on Tuesday at 1PM. The meeting to be held on Tuesday will elect the Speaker of the Province and Chief Minister Yadav will also take the vote of confidence. Ram Chandra Mandal of CPN-UML and Jangilal Raya of Nepali Congress have filed their nominations for the election to the Speaker. Since the ruling coalition has the support of almost two-thirds of the provincial assembly members, it is certain that Mandal will be elected as the Speaker of the province.
