JALESHWAR, Dec 25: The local administration has increased surveillance at the border checkpoint in Mahottari, which shares borders with India.
The surveillance has been initiated under the leadership of the District Administration Office to prevent criminal activities in the border area. On Tuesday, a team led by Chief District Officer Lalbabu Kawari closed down shops selling items like alcohol without permits.

Due to the alcohol ban in the Indian state of Bihar, illegal alcohol trade along the Nepal-India border has increased, and complaints from locals prompted the administration to start monitoring.
The local administration will now continuously monitor border areas including Mathihani, Parsa Patali, Malwada Bithamod, Tharuwahi, Nainhi, Maruwahi, Bathnaha, Samsi, Raghunathpur, and Katikataiya.
The monitoring team includes officers from the District Police Office, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department, and the Taxpayer Service Office.
