KATHMANDU, Sept 3: In a bid to foster reading culture, a library and information center has been set up at Jorpati of Gokarneshwor municipality.

It is the Chamunda Library and Information Center.

A total of 4,000 books of Sanskrit, Nepali and English languages have been put in the library set up by Chamunda Area Development and Conservation Fund, informed Chairman of the Fund, Bimal Man Shrestha.

Inaugurating the library, senior journalist Bijay Chalise said if such libraries were set up in different parts of the country, it would help in developing reading culture among youths.

"Library itself is a vast university, it needs expansion.

Despite advancement in science and technology, the library has very special role on knowledge building and knowledge transfer," he stressed.

He also announced the assistance of Rs 11,000 for the library.

On the occasion, litterateur Govind Prasad Ghimire 'Bedmani' said it would be more challenging to continue the library in a systematic way rather than establishment.

Various persons announced the assistance to the library running. On Saturday alone, Rs 60,000 was collected. RSS
