Lawmakers from Kathmandu Valley submit memo to PM

KATHMANDU, June 24: Lawmakers from three districts of the Kathmandu Valley have drawn the attention of the government to take concrete measures soon for reconstruction of the physical infrastructures damaged by the quake.

A team comprising 15 lawmakers under the leadership of Nabindra Raj Joshi today submitted a 33-point memorandum to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at PM's official residence, Baluwatar.


The lawmakers made this request to PM Koirala in view of holding discussion among donors during the International Conference on Nepal's Reconstruction scheduled on tomorrow regarding making the World Heritage sites in the Valley safe in course of reconstruction of Kathmandu valley.

They had visited different quake-ravaged areas in the Valley and carried out study and held discussion about destruction after quake and possibility, before submitting the memorandum.

Lawmaker Joshi said that they urged the government to provide machines and equipments immediately as it was necessary to remove debris of quake-hit areas soon.

The memo demands formulation of a plan in an integrated manner, providing soft loan to quake survivors for the reconstruction of their houses, developing integrated settlements in Kathmandu valley and formulating a policy to invest two per cent budget of the development budget for the reconstruction and protection of heritage sites, among others.
