Langtang National Park provides relief to wildlife victims

RASUWA, June 6: Langtang National Park (LNP) on Wednesday distributed relief to the victims of wildlife on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

RASUWA, June 6: Langtang National Park (LNP) on Wednesday distributed relief to the victims of wildlife on the occasion of the World Environment Day.


The national park offered relief to six victims on Wednesday. Local Khuwa Prasad Neupane was given Rs 10,000 while Hem Kumari Acharya and Pit Kumari Bhatta received Rs 6,000 each. Similarly, Maiyadevi Neupane, Dharmadatta Neupane and Rameshwar received Rs 5,000 each for their loss.

Earlier, 31 people were provided with the relief amount. As wild animals keep damaging and destroying their crops, the locals have stopped growing crops near the national park area of late. Especially wild boars have been terrorizing the people in the buffer zone.

Sushma Rana, chief conservation officer of Langtang National Park, informed Republica that the victims were handed over the relief as per the Wildlife Damage Relief Guideline 2012 (second amendment 2017).


"We know this money won't cover the damage caused by the wild animals but still we have been providing this relief," said Rana.


According to information officer Shiva Lal Gaire, this relief though less in amount will play an important role in reducing human-wildlife conflict.
