DHANGADHI, Jan 6: A hat-trick from Kyancho Togbe on Friday inspired Druk Star FC of Bhutan to a 4-1 comeback win over West Kathmandu in the First International Invitational Bhageshwar Group Sudhurpaschim Khaptad Gold Cup being held in Dhangadhi, Kailali.
Samir Jung Karki put West Kathmandu in front in the 23rd minute and put the visiting team under pressure. However, the A Division outfit of Bhutan hit back the equalizer in the second half through Pemba Rai in the 56th minute.
Druk Star resorted to offensive style of play and added three more goals in the remaining time and all of them came from Kyancho. He made it 2-1 in the 71st minute and extended the goals tally in the 84th minute. The Bhutan international completed his hat-trick one minute from time to seal the comprehensive win.
Following the match, Kyancho said that the comeback win was the result of team effort. “Despite conceding the first goal, all members of the squad came up with hard effort and we were able to alter the result after the break,” he said.
Kota Namgenjan, the coach of the visiting team, said that the win was possible due to perfect implementation of their strategy on the pitch. His counterpart Sundar Thapa of West Kathmandu pointed out injuries of some of his players and the absence of others due to their involvement in other tournaments as the reason of defeat.
Delhi United of India and Boys Union Club, a B Division team based in Kathmandu, will lock horns on Saturday.
The winner of the tournament will bag a purse of Rs 500,000 and the runner-up will get richer by Rs 250,000. The tournament features 12 teams including A Division teams of the country.
