The selection committee for the vice-chancellor has been formed as the four-year term of the current vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa ends on January 19.
In previous years, the selection committee used to be formed under the leadership of the co-chancellor (Minister for Education, Science and Technology), but this time that tradition has been broken.
The professors and employees of the university had been demanding that the selection committee be free from political pressure and influence and that their representatives should also be on the selection committee. But their demand was not addressed this time.
It has been 33 years since the establishment of KU. Founding vice-chancellor Suresh Raj Sharma served four consecutive terms and Dr. Ramkantha Makaju served two consecutive terms as vice-chancellor.
