LONDON, Jan 11: Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala stated that he will raise the issue of equal pensions for former Gurkha soldiers with British ministers.
During an interaction organized by the Nepali Embassy on Friday, Koirala criticized the Nepal government for granting non-residential citizenship as per constitutional provisions but failing to make it effective, leading to widespread criticism. He called for reforms and blamed the lack of good governance in Nepal for the problem.
He emphasized that Nepal should urge the United Kingdom, its oldest ally, to highlight Nepal's situation on regional and global platforms. He also stressed the importance of seeking the UK’s support to address the challenges Nepal faces due to climate change.

Leader Koirala noted that after parliament passed the transitional justice bill, the international community is closely monitoring the officials appointed to the commission.
He pointed out that expatriate Nepalis are concerned about advancing Nepal's progress and encouraged them to apply their skills and resources to contribute to the country’s development.
Acting Nepali Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Bipin Duwadi, addressed the program and highlighted the strength, education, and pride worthiness of the Nepali diaspora in the UK. He observed that Nepalis residing in the UK are eager to contribute to matters concerning Nepal. He emphasized that every Nepali in the UK serves as an honorary ambassador of Nepal and urged them to apply their knowledge, skills, and connections to benefit the nation.
Leader Koirala reached the United Kingdom on Thursday for a week-long visit. Nepali Congress activists and well-wishers in the UK greeted him at London Heathrow Airport on Thursday night.
On Sunday, he will address programs organized by the Nepali Congress Public Relations Committee UK and the Society of Nepalis Professionals UK. On Monday evening (January 13), he will join a meeting scheduled in a chamber of the British Parliament.
