According to party insiders, President Koirala will fly to Janakpur on Monday to attend the party´s function and interact with local leaders about the election. He is also scheduled to visit Mahottari and Siraha to attend party functions in these districts.
Koirala´s visit to eastern Tarai districts comes in the wake of NC gearing up for the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls. “Koirala will return to Kathmandu after inaugurating the general convention of Nepal Trade Union Congress scheduled to be held in Chitwan on June 21,” said one of his aides.
Earlier last month, NC had decided to depute all its central leaders across the country for its month-long awareness campaign. “I have found people´s support to the party in all parts of the country, including in Madhes. There is a strong chance for the NC to emerge overwhelmingly victorious in the upcoming CA election,” said NC CWC member Badri Pandey, who arrived in Kathmandu on Friday after visiting various districts in far western Nepal as part of the party´s poll campaign.
As the month-long awareness campaign of the party concluded recently, NC is preparing to launch a fresh campaign for election in all districts across the country.
NC President Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba had recently held discussions on launching the campaign.
NC had to face a humiliating defeat in the last CA election held in April, 2008. But this time around, NC leaders are optimistic that NC would fare better in Madhes -- the party´s traditional vote bank. “The party has a strong chance of emerging victorious if party fields Madhes candidates judiciously,” said NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi, who hails from Dhanusha district.
