KATHMANDU, Dec 18: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to appoint a sign language interpreter (interpreter service) in the help desk at Kathmandu Plaza. This decision was made by a meeting of the social committee held on Monday.

"We have given special priority to social sector programs to ensure an inclusive and accessible government to the citizens," said Ramkumar KC, the coordinator of the committee, while informing about the decision. KC said, "Our goal is to ensure that service recipients do not feel excluded from KMC services simply because they cannot communicate verbally or struggle to make their language understood by officials in the language office, due to challenges such as not being able to communicate verbally. We aim for service recipients to be accommodated through municipal services by understanding conversations in written or symbolic languages."
