KATHMANDU, Sept 17: People are not allowed to consume tobacco products in the public areas of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) effective from today. The metropolis has already issued a public notice stating that the consumption of tobacco products is prohibited in public places from September 17.
According to the metropolis, smoking or consumption of cigarettes, bindis, cigars, tobacco, sulfa, kakkad, raw tobacco, khaini, gutkha or other similar substances is prohibited in public places.
Police seize smuggled cigarettes
The 11th session of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Council passed a policy to effectively implement the ban on smoking in public places.
The KMC has warned that people who violate the rules will be kicked out of public places or fined.
