KATHMANDU, Jan 9 : The Kathmandu Metropolis has come up with a weeklong campaign aims to encourage pedestrians to use overhead bridge while crossing the roads.

The drive kicked off Sunday. As told by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office spokesperson Ishworman Dangol, people seem less interested in the use of overhead bridges to cross the major roads in Kathmandu which remain relatively busy than other roads. The campaign was launched with the participation of students from the Kadambari Memorial College and the Traffic Police Division has coordinated it.

"We have given more focus to visitors to Kathmandu instead of city dwellers under the campaign. The habit of boycotting the use of overhead bridge while crossing the busy roads despite awareness has increased the risk of accidents," he added.

Though the KMC has launched this sort of campaign, there is a limited number of such facilities in the city. Many areas are in dire need of overhead bridges and some existing ones are awaiting repair.

Under the campaign, a group of students will be seen in the entry points to nine overhead bridges.

Fifty students have been mobilised in the campaign. KMC good governance department chief Hari Bahadur Kunwar said the time for the campaign has been fixed from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm every day. RSS
