KMC allocates Rs 169 million to install CCTV cameras in all major thoroughfares of the metropolis

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has geared up preparation to install CCTV in all major thoroughfares of the metropolis.


A decision to this effect was taken by the 13th Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday. The meeting unanimously passed the proposal to install CCTV in the main public places in the metropolis.

In the current fiscal year 2022/23, out of 32 wards KMC, 25 wards have already allocated 105.9 million rupees for the installation of 54 CCTVs, while the metropolis itself has allocated Rs 60 million for urban communication security.


According to spokesperson Nabin Manandhar, who is also the coordinator of the Information Technology Committee of the metropolis, CCTV cameras will be installed on the main road of Kathmandu in coordination with Nepal Police.


CCTV will be installed in the squares and streets through the ward office with the technical support of the Nepal Police. The metropolis has said that CCTV will be installed in public places based on the needs study.


According to the agreement reached between the Metropolitan Municipality and Nepal Police on February 27, 2019, a total of 165 CCTVs were installed. Manandhar said that 158 of them are in operation at present.
