In the 5th episode of Kist Talk, the two keynote speakers were Nakim Uddin, chairman of Quest Entertainment (P) Ltd and Bal Krishna Joshi, co-founder of thamel.com and an e-business sales consultant.
Welcoming the audience and briefing them about the program, Sharad Neupane said, “Both the speakers today have been successful in bringing a different business dimension in the country and in setting an example in the business field with their innovative ideas.”
Neupane then questioned Joshi, “You have exhibited an ability of taking risks and taken the business industry of Nepal to a next level.
How did you get this out of the box idea?”
Joshi then answered, “I studied in the USA and I saw the boom of the Internet industry. And I slowly got the idea how it works but the concept of thamel.com came out accidently.”

Neupane then asked Joshi, “How tough was the business change or the innovative idea to penetrate the Nepali market?” Joshi then replied, “When I started my business, almost a decade ago, people here used to think that the Internet was an invasion of their privacy and they couldn’t trust the idea but gradually the sales didn’t fall with the concept getting popular with the people.”
Neupane then questioned Uddin, “Nepalis went to the theater with tickets costing Rs 25 and how did you make them pay Rs 125?How did you get the grip of the Nepali audience?” Uddin then replied, “The film culture was there in the Nepali society but the existing infrastructure was not so good.
So, I studied for almost a year and did research in India to bring a new concept and a standard multiplex cinema in Nepal.”
Neupane further questioned, “Is it possible for other businessmen to imitate your ideas and go for competition? What do you think about it?”
Uddin then replied, “We shouldn’t be scared of competition but should accustom ourselves with it.”
Joshi then said, “Competition will always be there but first as a service-provider one should know about customers’ needs.
Our company started in 2003 and we always wanted to do something revolutionary and so we came out with this new concept in order to cater to the needs of our people and connect with those living abroad.”
The program also dwelt on success and failures as well as experiences of the speakers in the business field.
It also included interaction with the audience amid question and answer sessions.
