KATHMANDU, Oct 16: Candidates belonging to Khas Arya group outnumber in the inclusive category in the first-past-the-post election system under the House of Representatives (HoR) and the provincial assemblies election.
Out of the total 2,412 candidates in the HoR, 1,017 candidates — the highest number of all other categories— are from Khas Arya group followed by 641 candidates from indigenous nationalities group, 506 from Madheshi group, 97 from the Dalit group, 82 from Muslim group and 69 candidates from Tharu group, the Election Commission (EC) data shows.

The number of candidates belonging to Khas Arya group is higher in the provincial assemblies election as well. Out of the 3,224 total candidates in the provincial assemblies, 1,055 candidates belong to Khas Arya group followed by 906 candidates belonging to indigenous nationalities group, 874 belonging to Madhesi group, 154 belonging to Muslim group, 144 belonging to Dalit group and 100 others belonging to Tharu group.
Registration of candidacies for the HoR and PA election took place throughout the country on October 9.
The election of the members of the HoR and the PA is taking place in a single phase throughout the country on November 20.
