"He does not seem to have amassed assets illegally as he owns Rs 268,000 less than what he might have earned during his entire service period," the verdict said.
A bench comprising justices Gauri Bahadur Karki, Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise concluded that Kharel now owns only Rs 18.95 million only while he legally earned Rs 19.22 million during his career.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against Kharel accusing him of amassing properties worth around Rs 16.33 million from undisclosed sources.
Kharel´s case was reopened by the Special Court, which had initially refused to register the case citing statute of limitations, after the Supreme Court ordered to reopen the case six months ago.
