Khalanga bazaar shut down over demolition of illegal huts

JAJARKOT, Jan 2: Khalanga bazaar, the district headquarters, has been shut down over the District Forest Office and local administration´s bid to evacuate the illegal settlements in the forest area near Khalanga bazaar on Wednesday.



The illegal settlers along with cadres of CPN-Maoist enforced the bazaar banda since early morning protesting the demolition of the illegal huts constructed in the forest area. Shops and market places have been completely shut down.[break]



They also took out a rally through major thoroughfares of Khalanga bazaar this morning, chanting slogans against the police and local administration.



A team of security personnel and representatives from the district forest office had destroyed around a dozen illegally-built huts in the forest area of Khalanga-2 on Tuesday.



Although some of the huts were destroyed Tuesday, cadres led by CPN-Maoist district secretary Imaswar Devkota had obstructed the demolition drive.
