Khadka wins Tour Championship

KATHMANDU, April 25: Rabi Khadka clinched the title of the Surya Nepal Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club on Thursday despite putting horrible performance in the last day of the tournament.



Royal Nepal Golf Club pro Khadka carded six-over 78 on Thursday for a total score of even-par 288. He registered a one-stroke victory over Army Club pro Sanjay Lama in the 10th and final event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13 to win his fourth title of the season. It was Khadka´s sixth career trophy. [break]



Lama played one-under 71 for a total of one-over 289. Umesh Nagarkoti finished third at two-over 290 after a round of two-over 74. The top three pros received Rs 88,000, Rs 55,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively.



Khadka, who began the final day with six strokes lead, carded two-over 38 on the front nine and four-over 40 on the back nine. He shot birdies on the fifth and 12th holes only against the bogeys on the third and 17th as well as double bogeys on the eighth, 10th and 16th holes.



Khadka made a six-foot par putt in the 18th hole to avoid play-off and maintain one-stroke lead over Lama, who suffered bogey on the last hole.



Lama played even-par 36 on the front nine and one-under 35 on back nine. He shot birdies on the ninth, 11th, 12th and 15th holes against the bogeys on the second, 14th and 18th holes.



"I´m happy to win the fourth title in a season though winning the last tournament became very tough for me," said Khadka. "I was not taking the final round easy though I have six-stroke lead but my horrible performance on the eighth , 10th and 16th holes made the day very tough," he added.



Ramesh Adhikari and Deepak Thapa Magar shared the fourth position with the total score of three-over 291. Adhikari played a round of two-over 74, while Thapa Magar carded the tournament best of five-under 67. Pashupati Sharma (73) finished sixth at 295, while Ramesh Nagarkoti (76) and Mani Rai (72) shared the seventh position at 296. Surya Sharma (77) came ninth at 297, while Purna Sharma (72) finished 10th at 298.



In Amateur section, Dinesh Prajapati carded two-under 70 to win the title with the total score of six-over 294. Sunil KC was a distant second with the total score of 301 on count back after he was tied with Tirtha Poudel. Overnight leader Bishnu Sharma (76) was fourth at 302, while Tashi Tshering came fifth at 304.



Brand Manager of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Keshav Pradhan, Vice-president of Gokarna Forest Resort Dorjee Sherpa and Advisor of Nepal PGA Ghana Shyam Thapa handed over the prizes to the winners.
