Kapilvastu’s COVID-19 patients came from Mumbai seven days ago

KAPILVASTU, May 8: Kapilvastu district on Thursday reported the first two cases of COVID-19. The lab tests conducted at Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory proved that two youths, aged 16 and 22, from Mayadevi Rural Municipality-8, Bijuka have contracted the disease.

KAPILVASTU, May 8: Kapilvastu district on Thursday reported the first two cases of COVID-19. The lab tests conducted at Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory proved that two youths, aged 16 and 22, from Mayadevi Rural Municipality-8, Bijuka have contracted the disease.


According to Daunarayan Poudel, the chief district officer of Kapilvastu, both of them had been staying at a quarantine facility set up at Chhatrapali Tithaudevi Secondary School in Mayadevi-1, Pakadi for the last seven days; a local quarantine facility.

It has been learnt that they had returned from an Indian city of Mumbai. Their swab samples were sent to Kathmandu on Tuesday. “They have not developed any symptoms,” medics said. Their health condition is normal.


With these two cases, the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Province 5 has climbed to 26. Earlier, one each in Rupandehi and Nepalgunj, Banke had been diagnosed with this disease. Similarly, 15 more patients and seven others were tested positive on May 3 and 5 respectively. Nepalgunj alone has 23 cases of COVID-19.
