Kanchanpur district records highest rainfall in 78 years

KATHMANDU: Kanchanpur district in Sudurpaschim Province has experienced the highest rainfall in the past 78 years.

On July 7 and July 8, Dodhara in Kanchanpur recorded the heaviest rainfall since 2003 B.S. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Dodhara, Hanumannagar, and Sundarpur in Kanchanpur received unprecedented rainfall levels since 2003 BS.

Preliminary data measured on July 8 at 08:45 AM indicated that 624.0 mm of rain fell in Dodhara, 573.6 mm in Hanumannagar, and 555.8 mm in Sundarpur within a 24-hour period.

This year, the monsoon season began in eastern Nepal on June 10 and remained active from June 28 to July 8.

Previously, on August 13, 2017, the highest rainfall of 516.2 mm was recorded in Hetauda, Makwanpur. Additionally, the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation reported 540.0 mm of rainfall at the Tistung Rain Center in Makwanpur on July 20, 1993.

Pratibha Manandhar, a senior meteorologist at the DHM, stated that the monsoon, which was active in Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces until two days ago, is now active in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces.
