KATHMANDU, May 20: Constitutional and Judicial Journalist´s Forum has expressed serious concerns over the Supreme Court (SC) administration´s move to not issue press pass to media persons representing electronic and online news portals.

The Forum has expressed dissatisfaction over a notice issued by the SC administration on Sunday regarding issuance of press pass to 16 journalists from various newspapers. [break]

Issuing a press statement Monday, General Secretary of the Forum Dilli Acharya said the notice is intended to stifle the right to information, which has been enshrined in the constitution.

“One after another illiberal move by the court against the press and journalists has saddened us and has raised suspicions doubts among us,” reads the press statement.

Acharya has stated that despite Forum´s respect to judiciary and the recent decision made by the SC administration, it is compelled to protest against the recent move.

He has said that any move to bar journalists from accessing information will not be acceptable. The Forum has also urged the SC administration to provide press pass to journalists from all types of media.

“Otherwise, the Forum will be under compulsion to seek the help of national and international media organizations and the SC administration will be responsible for the consequences,” reads the press statement.
